2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from Respawn Entertainment to direct the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently developing the forthcoming over-the-shoulder roguelike extraction-shooter known as this innovative game.
Leadership Transition Comes After Poor Response
The new appointee assumes the leadership position at 31st Union following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' underwhelming early showing last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated team members about this decision through an internal memo, which emphasized that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a more defined vision.
Ismailer noted that the team is now refining Project Ethos with a revised approach, aiming to better meet gamer demands.
Trend of Strategic Acquisitions
This announcement follows a similar step taken by 2K Games in the summer, when they hired Rod Fergusson from Blizzard to assist with the BioShock studio Cloud Chamber.
Here is the entire content from the president's communication:
Team—
I know you all just finished your gathering - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Previously I sent you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most driven and creative designers we have had the chance to collaborate with - and we’re looking forward for that partnership to endure.”
Given your hard work and flexibility, particularly over the past twelve months, you consistently demonstrate that.
The player input from last fall’s Project ETHOS testing phase was enlightening. It affirmed the promise of a action-packed game but indicated we still had work to do. It revealed the requirement for a clearer vision.
It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve progressed. You took the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a refreshed direction - one that’s poised to deliver on its potential to our fans.
Our confidence in Project ETHOS increases every day. To boost the incredible advancement you’ve made, I’m excited to welcome Ben Brinkman as the new Director of 31st Union. Following several months of discussions, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
His leadership and experience in the competitive gaming genre is extensive, having dedicated the recent years creating and overseeing some of the most recognizable franchises in gaming, such as Call of Duty: Black Ops, and most recently, Apex Legends.
Let’s together in receiving him soon. We are all excited to continue seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the time to come.
David

"Create your ideal gameplay session—or face defeat—in this engaging over-the-shoulder adventure! Customize your character in real-time to suit your personal playstyle," the description reads. "Face the competition with new abilities, challenges, and obstacles that shift every match. Will you safely extract with your collected items? Or take a risk, put it on the line, and pray your team can earn top ranking? The choice is in your hands."
Project Ethos has not yet received an official launch window or supported systems, but enthusiasts can look forward to further news as production progresses.
